Freestone Laboratory Gets to Know Patients

We are hospital-based laboratory providing inpatient and outpatient services to Freestone Medical Center, FMC ER and Freestone Health Clinics.  Located in Freestone Medical Center, our laboratory provides a majority of the most common diagnostic and testing procedures required of any hospital laboratory. When you come for a lab draw, our staff more than likely knows you by name,  is aware of your healthcare challenges, and your specific needs.

Most of our routine tests can be completed reported to your physician within 24-36 hours.  Tests that must be sent to an outside laboratory can take up to 72 hours or longer for results to be reported.

Our lab is CLIA-certified and overseen by a qualified pathologist to ensure the highest quality and integrity of the tests and results provided to your physicians so that they can efficiently and effectively diagnose, treat and manage your specific situation.

Services

At Freestone, we offer sophisticated state-of-the-art laboratory testing at our local facility. Our highly skilled medical laboratory technicians and medical technologists are available 24 hours a day. Our lab processes samples every day of the week, so we’re always here when you need us.

Urinalysis

Many illnesses and health conditions can be detected by the presence of certain compounds or organisms in your urine. Your provider can give you the insight you need as to why a urine test is necessary for your care.

Microbiology

Microscopic is the study of microorganisms including algae, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. Any bodily fluid of tissue can be cultured for infectious disease. Once bacteria grows in culture, it can be tested against many different antibiotics to find the most effective for fighting the infection while limiting opportunities for antibiotic resistance.

Chemistry

Chemistry performs a wide variety of test using the most current technology. It is defined as the scientific study of matter and the various compounds of the elements as it relates to the human body. Common tests analyzed in the chemistry laboratory are glucose, cholesterol, BUN, creatinine, potassium, liver and heart enzymes, thyroid tests and hormone tests, and PSA.

Hematology

Hematology is the study of blood, blood morphology and diseases. Hematologists count and classify blood cells into different categories. Coagulation is the study of the clotting activity of blood.

Immunology

Immunology is the study of immune products such as antibodies produced by the body in response to foreign material.

Blood Bank and Transfusion Services

We are proud to be a local blood bank that provides transfusion supplies for our local hospital and outpatient surgery center.

Coagulation Testing

Coagulation testing measures how quickly your blood can form clots and can also potentially detect the potential of excessive bleeding or the formation of blood clots (thrombosis).

Specimen Procurement and Processing

We often work with research and healthcare professionals to collect and process samples for various medical studies.

Teaching

We are proud to be a teaching lab for those who want to become laboratorians.

Reference Laboratory Referral and Transport

If there are any tests that we can’t complete locally, we can collect and process samples from patients close to our lab and send them out for processing at another lab or facility that has the equipment needed.

*We currently do not provide therapeutic phlebotomy or HIV testing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

No! As long as you’re here during our draw hours (7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) we will take whatever sample (blood or urine) that your doctor has requested.

Just come in the following morning so we can get accurate results for your bloodwork.

You can contact the lab directly at (333)-333-3333 or email us and a member of our staff will follow up with you.

Before you come in, we actually prefer that you consume up to 10 ounces of water (or coffee without any sugar or cream). In fact, if you don’t drink any water before the appointment, we’ll have you drink some as soon as you get here.

You’re not alone! We work with patients all the time who are uncomfortable or unaccustomed to getting blood work. We promise that your visit will be as comfortable as possible. We will work with you and make sure that you feel secure and safe.

In some cases, we can do multiple tests during a single visit. Please make sure to speak with your physician or clinician prior to arriving so you know exactly how to prep for your tests with us.

Yes! Because we need to know exactly how to process your labs, you will need an order from your doctor prior to your visit.

As soon as we greet you at the counter, you will be directed to one of our testing areas where we will collect your sample from either a restroom (for a urine sample, for example) or a private room where we will take a blood sample. We will always provide you with more specific instructions and hands-on care once you arrive.

Processing times vary depending upon the test you’re getting done and where we process the sample itself. Some results are available as soon as the next day, while some require several more days. We can always give you a timeframe when you’re here for your appointment.

Clinical Hours/MLT/MT Certification

We often work with students who are getting their MLP certification. Contact our lab to find out about whether or not we work with your program or more about how to get your clinical hour certification through us.
